What is A-Level Mathematics?

In short: this course gives one-to-one online tutoring for A-level Mathematics with AQA, Pearson Edexcel and OCR. A verified maths tutor covers pure mathematics, statistics and mechanics, the large data set and problem solving, using your board's past papers and mark schemes.

A-Level Mathematics is a two-year qualification in England covering pure mathematics (about two thirds of the content) and applied mathematics, split between statistics and mechanics. What are the A-level Maths assessment objectives?

A-level Mathematics weights the assessment objectives as 50% using standard techniques (AO1), 25% reasoning, interpreting and communicating (AO2) and 25% solving problems in mathematical and other contexts, including modelling (AO3). Clear communication of reasoning therefore earns marks alongside correct answers.

Which statistics topics are covered?

Statistics covers sampling, data presentation and interpretation, probability, the binomial and normal distributions, hypothesis testing for proportions, correlation and means, and the board's large data set, which exam questions may refer to. Tutors make sure you are familiar with your board's large data set.

What does a worked A-level maths question look like?

Here is a typical calculus question worked step by step: differentiate y = (3x² + 1)⁵ and find the gradient of the curve when x = 1. It tests the chain rule, which appears across pure and applied questions.

Compare the test statistic or p-value with the significance level, then state whether there is enough evidence to reject the null hypothesis, in the context of the question.

Is A-level Maths much harder than GCSE?

It moves faster and expects more algebraic fluency and proof. Students who secure GCSE algebra early usually adapt well.
