Edexcel IAL Biology is Pearson's International Advanced Level in Biology, made up of six units (WBI11 to WBI16) that can be taken in the January, June or October exam series. Pearson Edexcel International Advanced Level (IAL) Biology (YBI11) is a modular A Level for international students. It has six externally examined units: Units 1 to 3 make up the International AS (XBI11), and Units 4 to 6 complete the full IAL. Units are available in January, June and October, and can be resat individually.

Unit 5 includes a question worth around 20 marks based on a scientific article that Pearson releases at least six weeks before the exam. Tutors read the article with you, explain the unfamiliar biology, predict likely questions and practise linking the article to specification content.
Units 3 and 6 are written papers that test practical skills from the core practicals.
Because IAL is modular, you can spread units across exam series and resit individual units to raise your grade. Tutors help you plan which units to sit when, based on your strengths and university deadlines.
