More about dissertation help

A dissertation is usually the longest and most independent piece of work in a degree. It is also where students most often get stuck: narrowing the topic, finding a research gap, justifying a method, or turning data into a discussion. FLN Tutors' dissertation help gives you one expert, with a master's or PhD in your discipline, who supports you from proposal to submission.

Help is organised the way your dissertation is marked. In the proposal and introduction, you agree a focused research question, aims and objectives. In the literature review, you search databases, group sources into themes and argue a clear research gap rather than summarising. In the methodology, you choose and justify a qualitative, quantitative or mixed-methods design, sampling and ethics. In results and analysis, you run and interpret statistics in SPSS, R, Stata, Python or Excel, or code interviews in NVivo. In the discussion and conclusion, you link findings back to the literature and state limitations honestly.

You can work in milestones. Each chapter is reviewed before the next one starts, and you can share supervisor feedback along the way. Experts follow your handbook's word count, structure and referencing style, whether that is Harvard, APA 7 or OSCOLA, and the marking scheme your department uses.

Dissertation help covers business and management, nursing and healthcare, psychology, education, law, engineering, computer science, economics and the social sciences, at undergraduate, master's (MSc, MA, MBA, LLM) and doctoral level.

All drafts and data stay confidential. Every expert passes identity and academic credential checks. Use the support to build your own dissertation, in line with your university's rules and our academic integrity policy.

Because sessions run as dissertation help online, they work like dissertation coaching: regular check-ins, chapter feedback and a plan to your submission date.

What does dissertation help include?

In short: FLN Tutors gives dissertation help from tutors with master's degrees or PhDs, chapter by chapter. Tutors help you plan the chapter structure and word counts, choose a methodology, apply for ethics approval, analyse data in SPSS, R or NVivo, and edit your own drafts for undergraduate, master's and PhD dissertations.

Dissertation help is one-to-one support from a subject expert who guides you through planning, researching, writing and editing your dissertation. At FLN Tutors, an expert with a master's or PhD in your field works with you chapter by chapter, from choosing a topic to the final proofread, so your dissertation stays your own work.

  • Topic ideas and a research question your supervisor can approve
  • Proposal and research plan
  • Literature review, methodology, results and discussion support
  • Data analysis in SPSS, R, Stata, Python, Excel or NVivo
  • Editing, referencing and formatting to your handbook

What goes in each dissertation chapter?

A dissertation usually has front matter, five or six main chapters and end matter. Each part has a different job, and markers check something specific in each one, so knowing what they look for helps you plan before you write.

PartWhat it doesWhat markers check
Title pageIdentifies the projectFollows your handbook's format
AbstractSummarises the whole study in about 200–300 wordsAim, method, key findings and conclusion are all present
AcknowledgementsThanks supervisors and participantsOptional; keep it brief
ContentsLists chapters, tables and figuresAccurate headings and page numbers
IntroductionSets out the problem, aims, objectives and research questionsA clear, focused and justified research question
Literature reviewAnalyses existing research and identifies a gapCritical synthesis by theme, not a list of summaries
MethodologyExplains and justifies the research designFit between question, design, sampling, ethics and analysis
Results or findingsPresents what you foundClear tables and figures that answer each question
DiscussionInterprets findings against the literatureCritical interpretation and honest limitations
ConclusionAnswers the research questionsContribution, recommendations and further research
ReferencesLists every source citedOne consistent style, such as Harvard, APA 7 or OSCOLA
AppendicesHolds supporting materialConsent forms, survey instruments, extra output

How many words should each chapter be?

A common planning split for a dissertation is about 10% introduction, 25% literature review, 15% methodology, 15% results, 25% discussion and 10% conclusion. This is a planning guide, not a rule: always check your handbook, because departments and research designs vary.

ChapterShare10,000 words15,000 words
Introduction10%1,0001,500
Literature review25%2,5003,750
Methodology15%1,5002,250
Results or findings15%1,5002,250
Discussion25%2,5003,750
Conclusion10%1,0001,500

The abstract, references and appendices are usually outside the word count, but check your department's rules.

How do undergraduate, master's and PhD dissertations differ?

The support changes with your level. Undergraduate dissertations need a manageable question and a clear structure; master's dissertations need critical engagement with theory; PhD theses need an original contribution. Your expert adapts to the expectations, word count and marking criteria of your degree.

Five chapters, six, or thesis by publication?

Most dissertations use the five-chapter model: introduction, literature review, methodology, results and a combined discussion and conclusion. Many UK universities prefer six chapters, with discussion and conclusion separated. A thesis by publication, used mainly at PhD level, links published or submitted papers with an introduction and a concluding chapter.

StructureWhen it is used
Five chaptersMany undergraduate and US-style dissertations
Six chaptersCommon in UK master's and empirical dissertations
Thesis by publicationPhD students with journal articles, where the university allows it
Project or practice-based reportSome MBA, design and professional courses

How do we help with each dissertation chapter?

Most students get stuck on one or two chapters rather than the whole dissertation. You can ask for help with a single chapter or all of them, and your expert explains how to write each one so you can apply the method yourself.

  1. Proposal and introduction: how to write a dissertation proposal and introduction with clear aims, objectives and research questions.
  2. Literature review: how to search databases, group sources into themes and argue a research gap instead of summarising.
  3. Methodology: how to choose and justify a qualitative, quantitative or mixed-methods design, sampling and ethics.
  4. Results: presenting findings in tables and figures that answer your research questions.
  5. Discussion and conclusion: linking findings to the literature, stating limitations and recommending further research.
  6. Abstract, editing and referencing: a concise abstract and consistent Harvard, APA 7 or OSCOLA referencing.

Qualitative vs quantitative methodology: which should you use?

Choose your methodology from your research question. Use quantitative methods when you need to measure, compare or test relationships in numerical data, and qualitative methods when you need to explore experiences, meanings or processes in depth. Mixed methods combine both when one approach alone can't answer the question.

QuantitativeQualitative
Question typeHow many, how much, is there a relationshipHow and why, what is the experience
DataSurveys, experiments, secondary datasetsInterviews, focus groups, documents
AnalysisStatistics in SPSS, R or StataThematic or content analysis in NVivo
Quality criteriaValidity, reliability, generalisabilityCredibility, transferability, reflexivity

Business and management dissertations often justify their design with the research onion (Saunders et al.), working from the outside in: research philosophy, approach to theory development, methodological choice, strategy, time horizon, and data collection and analysis techniques.

How do you get ethics approval for a dissertation?

Any dissertation that involves people, such as surveys, interviews or observation, normally needs approval from your university's research ethics committee before you collect data. Research that takes place in the NHS in England and Wales also needs HRA and Health and Care Research Wales (HCRW) Approval, applied for through IRAS.

  • Complete your university's ethics form and risk assessment
  • Prepare a participant information sheet and consent form
  • Explain how you will store, anonymise and protect data under UK GDPR
  • Allow time: approval can take several weeks

Tutors help you write clear ethics applications and consent documents. See the Health Research Authority's guidance on HRA Approval.

Can you help with dissertation data analysis in SPSS, R or NVivo?

Yes. Data analysis is one of the most requested types of dissertation help. Experts help you choose the right test, clean and prepare your data, run the analysis and explain every output in plain English, so you can write up your results and defend them in a viva.

  • Descriptive and inferential statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, chi-square, correlation and regression
  • Survey design, reliability (Cronbach's alpha) and validity checks
  • Thematic analysis and coding of interviews in NVivo
  • Tables and figures formatted to APA 7 or your department's style

For statistics-heavy projects, see our business statistics and biostatistics help.

Where can you find data for a UK dissertation?

Many strong dissertations use high-quality secondary data rather than collecting their own. Your expert can help you find and justify a reliable dataset for your topic.

  • Office for National Statistics (ONS): population, economy, labour market and society
  • [UK Data Service](https://ukdataservice.ac.uk/): large social surveys and longitudinal studies
  • NHS England and NICE: health statistics and clinical guidelines
  • Bank of England and company annual reports: finance and business research
  • Eurostat, World Bank and OECD: international comparisons

How do you keep a PhD thesis methodologically strong?

A doctoral thesis must make an original contribution supported by a rigorous, ethical and transparent methodology. Supervisors and examiners look for clear justification of every design choice and honest discussion of limitations. Your expert helps you test each part against these standards.

  • Originality: a clearly defined gap and contribution
  • Ethics: approval, consent, data protection and anonymity
  • Validity and reliability (or credibility and dependability)
  • Transparency: enough detail for another researcher to follow your method
  • Reflexivity: acknowledging your influence on the research

What does a 12-week dissertation plan look like?

A 12-week plan moves from proposal to submission in clear stages, leaving time for ethics approval, data collection and editing. Adjust it to your own deadline and your supervisor's meeting schedule.

WeekTask
1Choose the topic and refine the research question
2Write and agree the proposal with your supervisor
3Submit the ethics application and start reading
4–5Write the literature review
6Write the methodology
7–8Collect data
9Analyse data and write the results
10Write the discussion
11Write the introduction, conclusion and abstract
12Edit, check references and formatting, and submit

Studying outside the UK?

Dissertation structure is similar worldwide, but the name, the ethics process and the referencing style change by country. FLN tutors help students in many countries and follow your own university's handbook.

How much does dissertation help cost, and what is guaranteed?

The cost of dissertation help depends on your level, the chapters you need, the word count and your deadline. You always see a fixed quote before paying, and nothing is charged until you accept it. Longer deadlines and single chapters cost less than full support.

  • Free revisions within the original brief
  • Full refund if work isn't delivered by the agreed deadline, has major inaccuracies that revision can't fix, or if no suitable expert can be found, as set out in our refund policy
  • Confidential: your drafts, data and details are never shared, and we never contact your university

Is it allowed to get help with a dissertation?

Getting tutoring, feedback and editing support is a normal part of studying, and many universities offer similar help through writing centres. What you submit must be your own work and follow your university's rules on outside support. Our academic integrity policy explains how to use model sections and feedback responsibly, and your expert will always explain the reasoning so you can write and defend your own dissertation.

For the sector view, see the QAA's guidance on academic integrity.

Worked example: from research gap to aim, objectives and questions

Supervisors often reject proposals because the aim is too broad. This fictional example from a master's in HR management shows how a tutor helps a student narrow it.

StageExample
Broad interestRemote work and employees
Research gap found in the literatureMost studies cover large firms; little is known about small UK firms after 2020
AimTo explore how hybrid working affects employee engagement in small UK professional services firms
Objectives1. Review the literature on hybrid work and engagement. 2. Interview 12 employees and 4 managers in three small firms. 3. Identify practices linked to higher engagement. 4. Recommend practical steps for small firms.
Research questionsHow do employees in small firms describe their engagement under hybrid working? Which management practices do they link to higher or lower engagement?
Method that fitsQualitative semi-structured interviews with thematic analysis

The aim, objectives, questions and method now line up, which is what markers and ethics committees look for first.

You stay in control of the interpretation, and the expert makes sure you can explain every test and decision in your viva or supervision meetings.

It depends on the scope. A single chapter is often 3 to 7 days. Full support from proposal to final edit usually runs over several weeks in milestones. You agree the schedule before you pay. Sending your proposal, supervisor feedback and chapter deadlines at the start helps the expert plan realistic milestones.
