Paper 1 questions build from describe to explain to evaluate. Part (c) asks 'How far…' or 'To what extent…' and rewards a balanced argument with a clear judgement.
Paper 2 tests how well you interpret, compare and evaluate sources. Tutors teach you to use the provenance of a source, cross-reference with other sources and your own knowledge, and explain the purpose and reliability of each source rather than just describing it.
