What does an online IGCSE tutor help with?

An online IGCSE tutor works through the syllabus topics you find hardest and the question styles that carry the most marks. In maths that means algebra, functions, geometry and problem solving at your tier. In the sciences it means calculations, longer answers and the practical or alternative-to-practical paper. In economics and business it means data response and evaluation questions.

Who takes IGCSEs?

IGCSEs are taken at international and British-curriculum schools around the world, including in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, India, Singapore, Malaysia and across Europe, and at many independent schools in the UK. Because tutoring is online, you can book a specialist in your subject and board at times that fit your school day and time zone.

What is the difference between IGCSE and GCSE?

Both are usually taken at about age 16 and cover similar subjects. GCSEs are mainly taken in UK schools and follow content set for England, Wales or Northern Ireland. IGCSEs, also called International GCSEs, are offered by Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel and Oxford AQA for international and independent schools, and are sat in exam series around the world.

How are IGCSEs graded?

Most Cambridge IGCSE syllabuses are graded A* to G, and some Cambridge syllabuses are graded 9 to 1. Pearson Edexcel International GCSEs and Oxford AQA International GCSEs are graded 9 to 1. Your tutor works from the mark schemes for your board so you know what each grade needs.

Should you sit Core or Extended IGCSE Maths?

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics (0580) has two tiers. Core leads to grades C to G and Extended to grades A* to E, so students aiming for a top grade usually sit Extended. Some students also take Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics. Your tutor checks which tier and papers you are entered for and focuses on that route.

When are IGCSE exams?

Cambridge IGCSE exams run in a June series and a November series, with an extra March series for schools in India. Pearson Edexcel International GCSEs have a June series and, for some subjects, a January series. Check your entry and your board's timetable, then plan tutoring back from your first paper.

Worked example: composite and inverse functions

Extended IGCSE Maths often asks about functions. If f(x) = 2x + 3 and g(x) = x², then fg(2) means apply g first: g(2) = 4, then f(4) = 11. The other order gives gf(2) = g(7) = 49, so the order matters. For the inverse, write y = 2x + 3, swap to x = 2y + 3 and rearrange: f⁻¹(x) = (x − 3) / 2. Tutors practise both orders because mixing them up is one of the most common lost marks.

Frequently asked questions

Do you tutor IGCSE students outside the UK?

Yes. Tutoring is online, so you can book live one-to-one sessions from anywhere in the world. Sessions are 60 minutes on Zoom or Google Meet and can be scheduled in the evenings and at weekends, so they fit around your school day in your own time zone.

Which IGCSE boards do your courses follow?

Our IGCSE tutors and courses follow Cambridge (CIE), Pearson Edexcel International and Oxford AQA specifications. Check the course list on this page for your subject, and tell us your board and syllabus code when you book so your tutor prepares with the right papers.

Should I take Core or Extended IGCSE Maths?

Extended covers more topics and leads to grades A* to E, while Core leads to grades C to G. Students aiming for a top grade or A-Level maths usually sit Extended. A tutor can review your recent results and help you and your school decide which tier suits you.

Can I book IGCSE tutoring from the UAE or Saudi Arabia?

Yes. Sessions are online, so students in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain can book live one-to-one sessions in the evenings and at weekends, including around the Gulf school week. Tell us your time zone when you book.

Can IGCSE students in India or Southeast Asia book sessions?

Yes. Students in India, Singapore and Malaysia can book online sessions at times that suit their school day. Schools in India can also enter Cambridge IGCSE candidates for the March series, so tell your tutor which series you are sitting when you plan your sessions.

How much does an online IGCSE tutor cost?

The price depends on the subject, level and how many sessions you book. You see the price for your request before you pay, and there is no charge until you accept it. A block of sessions before your exam series lets you plan the full cost in advance.

Is IGCSE harder than GCSE?

Neither is simply harder. Both are taken at about age 16 and cover similar content, but the syllabuses, papers and grading differ by board. What matters is preparing for your own board's syllabus and papers, which is exactly what an IGCSE tutor focuses on in each session.

Can you help with IGCSE Additional Maths?

Yes. Tutors help with Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics, which goes beyond the Extended maths syllabus into topics such as calculus, logarithms and further trigonometry. It suits students who want a head start on A-Level or IB maths, so tell your tutor your target grade.

Will my tutor use IGCSE past papers and mark schemes?

Yes. Tutors use past papers, specimen papers and mark schemes from your board, so you learn how marks are awarded as well as the content. They show you where method marks are lost and how examiners expect answers to be set out for your syllabus.

Can a tutor help with IGCSE science practical papers?

Yes. Cambridge IGCSE sciences include a practical test or an alternative-to-practical paper, depending on your school's entry. A tutor can practise planning experiments, recording results, drawing graphs and evaluating methods, which are the skills those papers test, using real past-paper questions from your syllabus.

How many IGCSE tutoring sessions will I need?

It depends on your starting point and target grade. One session can fix a single topic, while moving up a grade usually takes a regular weekly session over a term or more. Your tutor reviews your recent test or mock results first and suggests a realistic plan.

Can I take an IGCSE course instead of live sessions?

Yes. There are structured IGCSE courses for maths, the sciences, economics, business, accounting, English and computer science, organised by board. See the course list on this page. Many students combine a course with occasional live sessions for their hardest topics.

Can I resit an IGCSE?

Usually, yes. You can enter again in a later exam series through your school, or through an exam centre that accepts private candidates. A tutor can go through your previous result, find the topics and papers where marks were lost, and plan sessions before the resit.

Can parents book IGCSE tutoring for their child?

Yes. A parent or guardian can make the booking and share the board, tier and topics. Sessions are online, so your child joins from home, and you can agree with the tutor how progress will be shared after each session or block of sessions.

Can my tutor match my school's IGCSE syllabus code?

Yes. Each board publishes its syllabuses by code, such as 0580 for Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics. Share your code when you book and the tutor prepares with that syllabus and its past papers, so every session matches the exam you will actually sit.
