What is the difference between ICSE and ISC?
Both are run by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE). ICSE, the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education, is the Class 10 examination, and ISC, the Indian School Certificate, is the Class 12 examination. So a student moves from ICSE in Classes 9 and 10 to ISC in Classes 11 and 12, and the syllabus, papers and projects change at that step.
Which CISCE syllabus should you follow?
CISCE publishes regulations and a syllabus for each examination year on cisce.org, for example ICSE Year 2027 and ISC Year 2027. Use the documents for the year you will sit the exam, not an older year's. Your tutor checks the current syllabus for your subject before planning sessions, because topics and paper details can change between years.
How are ICSE and ISC subjects assessed and passed?
Under the CISCE regulations for 2027, ICSE candidates take at least six subjects: the compulsory Group I subjects (English, a second language, and History, Civics and Geography), two Group II subjects and one or two Group III subjects. Group I and II subjects are 80% external examination and 20% internal assessment, and Group III subjects 50% each. The pass mark is 33% in ICSE and 35% in ISC, and both certificates need a pass in English and in SUPW.
How are ICSE and ISC Mathematics examined?
ICSE Mathematics (51) has one 3-hour paper of 80 marks plus 20 marks of internal assessment, from at least two assignments, in each of Classes 9 and 10. ISC Mathematics (860) has Paper I, a 3-hour theory paper of 80 marks, and Paper II, project work of 20 marks made up of two 10-mark projects, in each of Classes 11 and 12. In ISC Class 12, Calculus alone carries 35 of the 80 theory marks.
What does an ICSE or ISC tutor help with?
In ICSE Classes 9 and 10 tutors work on mathematics problem-solving and the separate physics, chemistry and biology content, including definitions, diagrams and numericals. In ISC Classes 11 and 12 they work on calculus, vectors and probability in maths, and on derivations, numericals and longer answers in physics and chemistry, plus the project work each subject sets.
How does ISC tutoring help with JEE and NEET?
ISC Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics cover much of the content of JEE Main, and ISC Physics, Chemistry and Biology much of NEET. A tutor can teach each chapter for the ISC paper first, then add entrance-style problems on the same chapter, so you prepare for both without two separate study plans.
What happens in an ICSE or ISC session?
Before the session you send the chapter, specimen paper question or test result you want to work on. The tutor explains the concept step by step, works examples with you, then sets exam-style questions while checking your working and presentation. You finish with a short practice list for the next session.
Worked example: compound interest (ICSE Class 10 Maths)
Find the compound interest on ₹10,000 for 2 years at 10% per annum, compounded annually. Amount = 10,000 × (1 + 10/100)² = 10,000 × 1.21 = ₹12,100. Compound interest = 12,100 − 10,000 = ₹2,100. A common mistake is to work out simple interest (₹2,000) instead. Tutors ask you to write the formula first, then the substitution, so the method is clear even if an arithmetic slip happens.
Worked example: a definite integral (ISC Class 12 Maths)
Evaluate the integral of 2x from x = 1 to x = 3. The antiderivative of 2x is x². So the value is 3² − 1² = 9 − 1 = 8. Tutors check that you write the limits on the antiderivative before substituting, because skipping that line is where sign and substitution errors creep in.

How does online ICSE and ISC tutoring work?

Is ISC the same as ICSE?

Most students find ISC a big step up, because subjects go much deeper and maths adds calculus, vectors and probability at a higher level. Starting Class 11 with a tutor for the first chapters helps you build the methods and habits that the rest of ISC depends on.
