What is Environmental Studies (EVS) help?

It is one-to-one support from a tutor who knows the compulsory undergraduate EVS course taught across Indian universities. Tutors explain each unit, help you prepare for the exam and guide your field work or project report. EVS is a short, broad course for students of every degree; for the full science discipline, see environmental science.

Why is EVS compulsory for every undergraduate?

Following a Supreme Court direction that environmental education be taught at every level, UGC asked universities to make a basic environment course compulsory for all undergraduates. It first issued a core module syllabus for a six-month compulsory course, and in 2017 shared a revised eight-unit module as an Ability Enhancement Compulsory Course (AECC) under the Choice Based Credit System.

Under the four-year undergraduate structure that followed NEP 2020, many universities now teach environmental science or education as a common value-added course. Credits, marks and the semester vary: many colleges run it as a 2-credit course worth 100 marks, but always check your own university's syllabus and scheme of examination.

Environmental studies topic map: where students get stuck

EVS topics we help with

Tutors follow the UGC model syllabus as adapted by your university.

UnitTypical topics
IntroductionScope, importance, sustainability, sustainable development goals
EcosystemsEnergy flow, food webs, forest, grassland, desert and aquatic ecosystems
Natural resourcesDeforestation, water conflicts, dams, renewable and non-renewable energy
BiodiversityBiogeographic zones of India, hotspots, endemic species, in-situ and ex-situ conservation
PollutionCauses, effects and controls; solid waste management; case studies
Policies and practicesClimate change, ozone depletion, Indian environmental laws, international agreements
Human communitiesPopulation growth, resettlement, disaster management, environmental movements, ethics
Field workVisits to rivers, forests, polluted sites, wetlands; documenting plants and animals

Worked example: a household environmental audit for field work

Many colleges accept a simple audit as a field work or project activity. A family of 4 records its water use and waste for a week.

MeasurementWorkingResult
Water use per day (household)Meter or bucket readings averaged over 7 days540 litres
Water use per person per day540 ÷ 4135 litres per person per day
Waste per dayWeighed each evening, averaged2.0 kg
Wet (biodegradable) waste share1.2 ÷ 2.0 × 10060%
Dry (recyclable) waste share0.7 ÷ 2.0 × 10035%
Domestic hazardous waste share0.1 ÷ 2.0 × 1005%

The report then compares results with the planning norm used for your city, lists three practical changes (such as fixing leaks and composting wet waste) and repeats the measurement. State your method clearly so the results can be checked.

Worked example: a timeline of key environmental laws and agreements

Unit 6 answers score better when laws are linked to their purpose.

YearLaw or agreementMain purpose
1972Wildlife (Protection) ActProtects listed wild animals and plants; sets up protected areas
1974Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) ActControls water pollution; set up pollution control boards
1980Forest (Conservation) Act, renamed in 2023 as the Van (Sanrakshan Evam Samvardhan) AdhiniyamControls diversion of forest land
1981Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) ActControls air pollution
1986Environment (Protection) ActUmbrella law passed after the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy
1987Montreal ProtocolPhases out ozone-depleting substances
2002Biological Diversity ActConserves biodiversity and regulates access to biological resources
2015Paris AgreementClimate change mitigation and adaptation goals

A strong answer adds one Indian example of each law in action, such as the role of pollution control boards.

Where do students lose marks in EVS?

EVS is broad but not hard. Most lost marks come from generic answers.

Mark-loserWhat to do instead
Answers with no Indian examplesAdd a named case, such as Chipko, Narmada Bachao Andolan or Bhopal
Laws without years or purposeGive the year and what each law controls
Diagrams missing labelsLabel food chains, pyramids and the water cycle
Field report with no methodExplain where, when and how you collected data
Pollution answers without controlsCover causes, effects and control measures
Copied project materialUse your own observations and photos

What environmental studies assessments look like, and what markers want

Country notes: studying environmental studies outside the UK?

Environmental studies is taught to similar core ideas worldwide, but grading, referencing and course structure differ. FLN tutors work from your own syllabus and handbook and schedule lessons in your time zone. Always follow your module handbook for referencing.

How much does environmental studies help cost?

The price of environmental studies help depends on the type of task and your deadline. A short question costs less than a full field work report.
