What are the 0680 exam papers?

Cambridge IGCSE Environmental Management (0680, syllabus for 2027–2029) has two papers, both with short-answer, data and extended-response questions on source material. Exams run in June and November; the March series is for centres in India only.

ComponentTimeMarksWeightingFormat
Paper 1 Principles of Environmental Management1 hour 45 minutes8050%Short answer, data and extended response
Paper 2 Environmental Management in Context1 hour 45 minutes8050%Short answer, data and extended response on source material

Which topics does 0680 cover?

The 0680 syllabus has seven topics: natural resources; land; water; the atmosphere and human activities; ecosystems, biodiversity and fieldwork; natural hazards; and human population.

How do you answer source-based questions?

Most marks come from questions based on unseen source material such as maps, graphs, tables and articles. Strong answers quote figures from the source, describe trends accurately and then explain them using your own knowledge.

  1. Read the source and its title, units and scale.
  2. Describe the trend with figures.
  3. Explain causes using your knowledge.
  4. Suggest and evaluate management strategies.
  5. Finish with a justified judgement for extended answers.

Investigation and data skills

The syllabus tests how to plan investigations, collect data with methods such as quadrats, transects and questionnaires, present it in graphs and tables, calculate percentages and means, and identify limitations and improvements. Tutors practise each skill with exam questions.

What does a worked data question look like?

Here is a typical data question: a forest area fell from 500 km² to 420 km². Calculate the percentage decrease.

StepWorking
Decrease500 − 420 = 80 km²
Divide by original80 ÷ 500 = 0.16
Percentage16% decrease
