| 2 People in business |
| 3 Marketing |
| 4 Operations management |

How do you answer the Paper 2 case study?
Case study answers must apply your knowledge to the business in the insert. The best answers use evidence from the case, analyse the impact on that business and finish with a justified recommendation.
- Read the case and highlight figures and stakeholders.
- Use the business's name and context in every point.
- Develop each point into its consequence for the business.
- Weigh up the options.
- Recommend and justify a decision.
Business calculations you need
Tutors make sure you can calculate and interpret break-even, profit, cash flow, profit margins, the current ratio and acid test ratio, and percentage changes, and explain what the results mean for a decision.
What does a worked business calculation look like?
Here is a typical break-even question: fixed costs are $12,000, the price is $20 and variable cost is $8 per unit.
| Step | Working |
|---|---|
| Contribution per unit | $20 − $8 = $12 |
| Break-even output | $12,000 ÷ $12 = 1,000 units |
Where do students lose marks in Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies?
Students most often lose marks through the habits below. Each is easy to fix with practice and feedback.
| Mark-loser | What to do instead |
|---|---|
| No application to the case | Use the business in the question |
| Calculation errors | Show working with units |
| One-sided answers | Weigh advantages and disadvantages |
