PaperTimeMarksWeightingFormat
Paper 1 Multiple Choice1 hour 30 minutes4030%Multiple-choice questions
Paper 2 Structured Written Paper1 hour 45 minutes10070%Five compulsory 20-mark questions

Which topics does 0452 cover?

The 0452 syllabus has seven topics.

Topic
1 The fundamentals of accounting
2 Sources and recording of data
3 Verification of accounting records
4 Accounting procedures
5 Preparation of financial statements
6 Analysis and interpretation
7 Accounting concepts and modern practice

How do you master double entry?

Double entry records every transaction twice: a debit in one account and a credit in another, so the accounting equation always balances. Tutors teach a simple rule set for which account to debit and credit, then build speed through many worked examples until it becomes automatic.

Preparing financial statements accurately

Most marks on Paper 2 come from preparing statements correctly. Tutors practise the layouts of the income statement and statement of financial position, including adjustments for accruals, prepayments, depreciation and irrecoverable debts, so you lose no marks for presentation.

What does a worked accounting question look like?

Here is a typical double-entry question: a business buys goods for $500 on credit from Supplier A.

AccountDebitCredit
Purchases$500
Supplier A (trade payable)$500

Every transaction has an equal debit and credit, so the trial balance agrees.

Where do students lose marks in Cambridge IGCSE Accounting?

Students most often lose marks through the habits below. Each is easy to fix with practice and feedback.

Mark-loserWhat to do instead
Debit and credit reversedUse the accounting equation to check each entry
Unbalanced trial balanceCheck each entry has equal debit and credit
Wrong statement formatLearn the layouts of income statements and statements of financial position
